Toronto, Canada
I don’t like making a big deal of my birthday. Despite being a blogger and detailing my life online to the world I would prefer if things just came and passed quietly. So this year I was so happy that my birthday was coinciding with one of my favourite events:
Home Ec Night
It’s run by my favourite Toronto food bloggers, Joel and Dana of Well Preserved who host a monthly event at The Avro which is basically a themed potluck and this month was dips!

I love the events because it’s a way to meet some really interesting people, get fun buttons and I’m always impressed by what people bring – Joel brought parmesan dipped in chocolate and cayenne – seriously I love these events.
For my birthday we did a round of Canadian Campfires: shots of Jameson with a toasted marshmallow.

It was the perfect birthday.

Much thanks to Margaret Mulligan who took all the photos; another great person and incredible photographer her blog can be found here.

I'm Ayngelina and in my mid-thirties. I left an amazing job, boyfriend, apartment and friends to find inspiration in Latin America. I'm creating a new life choosing what I want instead of what other people think I should do.

5-layer Mexican Dip? I love those. Will have to make a big batch this weekend.

One of the attendees made them into little shooter sized cups, it was perfect.
Nice one! Happy belated to you.
Thanks Natalie
Oh man that Canadian Campfire shot would be so good! Never heard of it before but YUM. Bit sad that its 8am and I am thinking about having one though
It’s 5pm somewhere in the world, go for it.
Those are some awesome photos, really captured the spirit of the party. I do like a birthday party if I’m honest – any reason to gather with friends and have a good time is fine with me

oh I am the same way.
LOVE her photos. Have never heard of Canadian Campfire shots before, but toasting a marshmallow on top of a shot has to be THE BEST IDEA EVER!!

I know, how is this the first time I’ve had this in a shooter?
Those shots look delicious! And would it be to arrogant to say that in Texas we have 7-layer Mexican dip? I suppose everything is bigger in Texas.

Why yes it is.
Where can I find a Canadian Campfire? Is that a normal drink at bars in Canada?? It sounds delicious.

I had never heard of it, but the people at this party definitely know the most delicious things to eat and drink in Canada.
I demand a Canadian Campfire RIGHT NOW! Odds are slim, but I had to try. That looks truly delish.

If you can find marshmallows I’m sure someone will make it for you. I remember finding them in Nicaragua was quite the challenge.
It sounds like such a wonderful time.
I’m very curious about the 5 layer Mexican dips though.

I think it’s more Tex Mex than anything you’d see in Mexico City.
I want these five layer mexican dips now!! Glad you had a great time

You can’t go wrong with cheese and salsa.
I need personal-sized 5 (or 7 – it’s not just a Texas thing, Leah!) layer dips in my life.

It’s a brilliant idea.
I had never heard of Canadian campfires. Very interesting combination – alcohol and a blowtorch!:)

Hmm maybe a bit dangerous.
Do you eat the marshmallow after the shot? That sounds delightful. Canada, home of gravy covered cheese fries and marshmallow chaser. God Bless Canada!

Why yes you do. I know for a fact you would love it.
I love this idea. Such a great thing to do. And I have MAJOR badge envy!! I love them – especially the Double Dipping badge – we’ve decided that it’s ok amongst friends but otherwies a no go! lol

I love buttons, I really need to buy something to put them on.
Canadian Campfires sound yummy! Mary and I had a more subdued birthday celebration, as mine came at the end of 2 long, brutal weeks of deadlines. But we did have food– TONS of amazing sashimi and some homemade sugar free banana ice cream. Just the 2 of us on the boat, but it was pretty awesome. Glad to hear yours was memorable as well!

Happy Birthday to you as well!
Very cool badges! Are you going to keep carrying them with you? They’d make some great gifts for people on the road…
