Montreal, Canada
I have already professed my love for Montreal many times. It was a city that I once wanted to make my home and I go back any chance I can get like last summer’s Montreal Jazz Festival.
So when Cailin from Travel Yourself told me she was heading there for the weekend for Osheaga I knew I had to get over there. Last year I went to the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival. I’m not a huge fan of big concerts, I prefer smaller venues. But there is something about music festivals that make a summer special.
It’s when the hippies come out.
I learned the first day that I was grossly overdressed as the uniform for Osheaga was a bikini top and shorts. This was actually a very practical decision for many as it was very hot but also periods of rain.

No one seemed to care and the vibe at Osheaga was very relaxed with lots of art installations, and this knitting circle.
While I was most excited to see my favourite band Metric, Feist and the Black Keys, the biggest talk of the festival was the unveiling of Snoop Lion. Apparently Snoop Dogg was inspired by a trip to Jamaica and has decided to rebrand. People were afraid he wouldn’t play the classics but this video from Cailin shows that Snoop’s no fool.
The air got very…ah…smokey…and as he went on stage he played all that was expected of him. I have to admit I’m not his biggest fan but it was definitely an entertaining show.
And I wonder what is in the future for Snoop, will he stay a lion? This is a man that once had a foray into country music and appeared on the Martha Stewart show to make mashed potatoes.
Whatever he does I’m sure it will be entertaining and he won’t stop singing Gin and Juice
Disclosure: I was a guest of Tourisme Montréal and they covered my train ticket, hotel and Osheaga pass. They did not request that I write a favourable review or wear a garbage bag when it started to rain because I didn’t even bother to look at the weather forecast before coming.

Next up (for both of you): Hippies at Bonnaroo in Tennessee! I happen to know someone who would be more than happy to host you–no strings attached.

Oh I would definitely love to come dow to Bonnaroo!
Snoop Lion? Oh my, I am always so entertained by the antics of celebrities. haha. It is funny because I don’t like music festivals one bit, so I try to avoid them. Maybe that has something to do with the lack of music in my life? Other than Broadway Musicals that is!

No music in your life at all?
I am so jealous you got to see Snoop Dogg.
The Black Keys and Metric are two of my all-time favorite shows. I just got to see Metric again in Cbus… they headlined at our local radio station’s Summerfest (it was only a $10 ticket for the whole day of music too).

That is crazy cheap. They are playing at a big stadium in Toronto next and I`m not going. I loved seeing them in small venues and I would rather not go at all.
Wow, Snoop changed his name to Snoop Lion!

For now…
Snoop Lion? Mashed potatoes with Martha Stewart? How crazy!
I’m not a fan of big festivals like this, but it sounds like you had a great time. The girls knitting cracked me up!

You need to watch the video of him with Martha Stewart, it is hilarious.
I think we looked damn fine in our garbage bag jackets too! haha

It`s a new thing, festival chic!
I read something a few years ago that said Snoop’s next big goal in life is to win an Oscar. Perhaps he feels he has a better chance at that if he’s a lion rather than a dogggg!

Have you seen the 30 Rock where he wants to get all 3 things and needs to win an Oscar, it`s pretty funny.
The lion seems to be all the rage. “Ruler of the Kingdom”. Ahh…yes, I am the ruler of my kingdom and Snoop Lion is the ruler of his.
He just happens to have a few more cubs than I do!
More than a few I suspect!
Sounds like a very fun day out.
LOVE the lighting in the photo under the trees. Fantastic.

That was not so fun for me, nor was the rain but hey it was worth it.
I thought the whole Snoop Lion thing was a joke but apparently not…and I kind of wish the video was of Drop It Like It’s Hot or Sexual Eruption. Hankering for my uni days!
Also I had NO idea that he appeared on the Martha Stewart show, either. New fact of the day!

It`s no joke, although I don`t know how anyone can really take him seriously.
I’m not a big fan of big all-day concerts, but I should go to one again just to remind myself that I’m not old (or maybe being around girls in bikini tops and shorts will make me feel really old?). lol about the garbage, too

Go just one more time, maybe take it easy and do a folk festival. I really liked the one I went to in Winnipeg and it was much more relaxed than this one.
Ha ha.. what a great Hippie festival! I got to see ‘Snoop Lion’ when he came though Calgary this summer – and really, no change detected. Lots of smoke… lots of gin and juice. Must say I enjoyed the experience! ha ha

I`m not a huge fan but you have to go see him.
Love that you got see “Snoop Lion”. I have a feeling this name change may go down the same path as “The Artist” aka Prince.

Oh yes I`m sure he`ll have a few more name changes.
I had to write about this Snoop Lion business right after the festival, and I was confused because I hadn’t heard that Snoop even changed his name. I kinda like his reggae persona, but it will probably get old fast. As long as he keeps playing his old hits, everything is good.

I don`t think it will last long, just as his country days were short-lived as well.
I was surprised when I heard about Snoop’s trip to Jamaica and all of a sudden changed her name to Snoop Lion. It seems like the reggae genre fits him based on the video above. What about a Reggae Version of I Wanna Love You? Haha =))

I`m sure they are looking at releasing reggae versions of all his stuff.
Great photos! Looks like a fun event– and very popular with the hipsters
I’d love to check it out!

Yes hipsters love snoop for sure.
Snoop Lion???? For real? OMG what?!
But, in all seriousness, I love the look of that festival. I’ve been thinking about getting a working visa for Canada when I’ve finished my contract here in Mexico and I’ll definitely be keeping this in mind.
