Toronto, Canada
I first met Chef Jamie Kennedy a few years years ago while working at Torontoist with Kaori. Besides being a pioneer in the local food movement and creating amazing food he had this quiet presence that I remember even today. He’s an innovator and was into local before it became fashionable.
He hasn’t stopped innovating. Next week he and the Group of 7 Chefs have a new project that pushes the concept of the open kitchen. They have invited the Toronto food community to experience an unprecedented window into the back of the house as the evenings meal completes the last leg of its journey from farm to table.
Guess what? I’m now part of that community!
Don’t hate me because you can come too. I have been given a +1 ticket and in the spirit of sharing I’m opening it up to a draw. All you need to do is leave a comment below of your favourite meal in Ontario. Let’s face it food has always been my favourite memory while traveling and now that I’m back I need to know where to eat.
I’ll be drawing Sunday the winner at 12 noon.
I can only take one person, so if you don’t win the random draw you can still join in by watching the event live on a Google+ Hangout! Stayed tuned to the Ontario Culinary Tourism Association Google+ page for more details.

I'm Ayngelina and in my mid-thirties. I left an amazing job, boyfriend, apartment and friends to find inspiration in Latin America. I'm creating a new life choosing what I want instead of what other people think I should do.

I wish I could join
but bangkok is just too far away!! Congrats on being part of the community and enjoy the dinner!!!

What an excellent contest! While I love Toronto retaurants, some of my favourite food memories have been in Kingston. I have to say that my favourite meal in Ontario has been the quail at Pan Chancho.
This is a tough question. So many great meals in Ontario! Last summer, my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Celestin on Mt Pleasant (Toronto) and it was amazing. We treated ourselves to a spare-no-expense dinner with cocktails, appetizers, mains, cheese plate, dessert and even a round of port to finish things off. It was incredible. It was also my first time trying monk fish. Did you know it’s the poor man’s lobster?
I hope your +1 is super sexy!
I’d love to be your +1!
Summerlicious at Canoe last summer was pretty epic: Slow cooked Ontario pork loin on pearl couscous with mustard greens and plum marmelade. Divine!
What a great draw! I’d love to be your plus one!
One of my favourite meals in Toronto is the Kinoko Bibimbap at Guu where rice is mixed with cheese, mushrooms and a seaweed sauce. It gets all crisped up on the bottom since it’s served in a hot stone pot, yum!
+ 1 (me)! … so far, my most memorable meal has been GUU Izakaya! … overall best for lively & exotic atmosphere, best fusion of Japanese cuisine (even though i’m NOT one for fusion), and best price for quality of food! My favourite dishes are:
YAKI UDON – udon noodles with beef, mushroom, scallions
MAGURO TATAKI – tuna sashimi w/ ponzu & garlic chips
KINOKO BIBIMBAP – rice with mushrooms, seaweed and cheese melted on top
KAKIMAYO – baked oysters w/ spinach, garlic, mayo and topped with creamy cheese.
Been here 3 times in less than 2 months!
Hope to be your foodie date!
Aww, this is so cool Ayngelina! Wish I could be in Ontario for this foodie occasion. Hope you thoroughly enjoy it and pick a great candidate!

Asking about my favourite meal in Ontario (especially Toronto)is like asking to pick a favourite child! And you know this from reading my blog! I think my fave restaurant right now for consistency is Khao San Road. But I love the markets here and would love to explore The BrickWorks and Wychwood with you (you would love the Wychwood). I would love to explore more of the countryside, however, and take a road trip to Prince Edward County. I hear it’s quite the wine country (and for foodies too!). Would love to be your plus one since I won’t see you for another good month.
Not often are we in the same city when you are attending these cool events – advantage me.
Count me is as a +1 candidate.
Bozena shero at lalibela. I am offended to have to
Jockey for position like this. After everything we’ve been through together. My brother from another mother, if we were boys.
Does a plane ticket come with it?
Loce Shushi Kaji, def my fave japanese restaurant with great food and service. Plus love the Omakase only since no need for me to chhose
walking in downtown Kingston and eating random baked goods from local bakery, Pan Chancho Bakery & Café and italian take out, Pasta G
I also love that they extended the bakery and now includes great Latin food in the back.
I love the Taste event in PEC every end of September/October where it brings the farming community, wine makers, cheese makers. chefs – just to name a few. where you go around and taste various samples of food. Its not a sit down meal per se but its every bit and every bite is an amazing gastronomical experience. I look forward to it every year as its one of my favourite events in Ontario and how fortunate we are to have this type of events and taste experience food in a whole different way and meet the people who create this amazing experience and also meet fellow food lovers. Its one of my best meals ever!
I have to put that on my list now that I will be here this fall. I really like events like that – as long as they aren`t at the Convention Centre!
Jamie Kennedy is great! Worked with him on a dinner at the Plaza in NYC years ago. Can’t wait to hear all about the food.
Lucky you!
My favorite meal experience in Ontario was at Khao San Road last year for Songkran. It was an incredible 3 course meal interspersed with a 3 hour long waterfight. Amazing experience. This year I will bring a change of clothes!!
You know Khao San Road is one block away from me and I still have not gone. Everytime I go it is packed. I wonder if they are open tonight…
How about my most recent great meal in Ontario?
I was at Food Truck Eats in Liberty Village yesterday and had the Senor Ghandi Ceviche from El Gastronomo Vagabundo, SO GOOD!
I haven`t been able to visit any of the food trucks yet. I am really looking forward to it though
Are they still there or was it just a one-time thing?
My favourite restaurant would be The Apricot Tree in Erin Mills. Fresh food, sourced daily, the husband is an eighth generation pastry chef, his wife is from the Philipines and creates an incredible fusion meal. And European style coffee to boot. It is a best kept secret out in Mississauga. Did I mentioned three courses, wine, tip and tax in and you walk out the door under $100 per couple?! Just. Plain. Wow.
Oh wow I have never heard of that place. Now if only I had a car!
I will never get over this setback.
Don`t forget you can participate on Google+ and hopefully in the future I can pick my +1
I’ve never eaten, let alone been, to Ontario. If I had to choose though it would definitely be in a field with a picnic blanket and a scantily clad Ayngelina Brogan in full view. The food wouldn’t be the only thing getting a munching…
You do know how to make a girl blush now don’t you
