Today is Bacontine’s Day!
There are many times of the year to celebrate our love of bacon, there’s an unofficial International Bacon Day on the Saturday before Labour Day in America that has been celebrated since 2009 and others in the world celebrate Bacon Day on December 30th. Some people go as far to profess why bacon is healthy.
There’s no need to argue about when is the best time to celebrate our love for bacon, and A&W agrees, today they sent me a bouquet of bacon roses – which oddly enough no one has given me before!
Today’s Bacontine’s Day surprise was to announce A&W’s continued work with its Ingredients Guarantee to source simple, great-tasting ingredients which now includes the introduction of bacon from pork raised without the use of antibiotics.
Growing up, fast food was a treat for us and our tiny town had an A&W drive in restaurant. I remember the first time my mother took me there I thought it was so cool to eat in our car. The drive ins disappeared when people realized eating in cars wasn’t as awesome as they thought but A&W evolved and introduced the decadent Mozza Burger, and you know what makes that burger so good?
It seems that I’m not the only Canadian that thinks bacon makes life better. An A&W poll revealed Canadians are bacon-sessed with 80% of Canadians agreeing that bacon makes a burger taste better. Some even said it was more important than social media and 25% would give up Facebook for great-tasting bacon.
Canadian tastes are changing and the survey also revealed 81% would enjoy bacon more if it was made using only natural, and no artificial, preservatives and 79% would like the bacon to come from pork raised without the use of antibiotics. So A&W listened and moving forward the pigs will be raised without the use of antibiotics and its recipe is simple: pork, sea salt, cane sugar, cultured celery extract, cherry juice and natural smoke.
To celebrate A&W has launched special, limited-edition Peppered Bacon Burgers available in Mama, Papa and Grandpa sizes made with peppered bacon topped with caramelized onions, roasted garlic and chili aioli. Personally I’m sticking to the Mozza Burger which has never failed me.
Disclosure: This was a paid partnership with A&W although they did surprise me with roses and I did get an intense craving for a Mozza Burger eating this post.
