I know many people don’t see the point of Twitter and if you don’t run a blog or business I wouldn’t try to convince you that you need to be on it.
But Twitter could be one of my favourite social media platforms, remember when I was stuck in Buenos Aires and Twitter got me on the first flight to Vancouver?
Facebook may be where I connect with friends but Twitter is where I connect with people with shared interests.
Many months ago I started following @ChefEricWood and we chatted back and forth. But then I wrote about being personally and professionally dumped within a span of a few weeks and Eric sent me a direct message of support and shared his own very personal story.
That is a beauty of Twitter. You can connect with people you would never otherwise meet.
I knew Chef Eric was in the middle of opening Hawthorne Food and Drink and when he invited me to a preview lunch I was so nervous.
Not for meeting him, I already knew he would be fantastic. But I wanted his food to be amazing and knowing his story I really want things to go well for him.
That was silly.
And because Twitter and food pair well together, at Hawthorne I met @myersjennifer and @foodanthology and we gorged on food.
My highlights were the smelts from Nova Scotia (a taste from home), crispy fried quail and the lemongrass BBQ ribs.
I didn’t know this but Eric is known from previous restaurants for his affinity for the #4squaremeal which I love because it means I don’t have to commit to one thing to eat.
Hawthorne Food and Drink is now open for lunch but in the New Year he’s going to run cocktail nights with small plates of food called Flight Club.
And after drinking the amazing house made organic ginger aleI’m ready to make a move to cocktails.
It’s nice to meet someone who is so nice and yet is so talented. It’s just another reason I am so happy to be back in Toronto.
Besides who doesn’t want to drink out of a boot glass?
Great meet! See – I am one of those twitter haters. I use it and sometimes find useful things on it – but mostly I don’t understand it because I cannot read quick enough to keep up with all the information being shot at me. haha But I met you – so thats worth something in my travel blogger fan world. haha. 😀
Are you using TweetDeck or HootSuite to create lists? I have lists for everything: Travel Bloggers, Toronto, Yoga…I also have lists for each country in Latin America for the next time I go down I can reach out to people for ideas.
I saw the boot and thought you were in Calgary – yes, I always scan the pictures first!

Twitter is tough to understand at first, just start following people you think are interesting and eventually you will be hooked.

I love the food menu! What I like is that its not the regular cookie cutter dishes, so to speak. Thats the kind of food that I like to eat. It looks like he will be a success!
I’m at the point where I hate ordering just one dish to eat. I would rather try a bunch of things so it’s perfect for me.
Twitter is the BEST for the reasons you’ve stated. Now, I need to put this place on my list. I’ve never heard of it! I’m guessing it’s new. Whoo Hoo!
Yes it just opened last week but the food is so good. I’m definitely going again when they open for cocktails, as long as he offers the smelts as well!
I held out from joining Twitter for nearly the first full year of blogging. Now I have joined I will never look back. The people I’ve “met” and friendships I have formed with fellow bloggers in my city and beyond has been incredible.
I didn’t understand it at first either, it takes some time to figure out why it should be used but now it’s my favourite social medium.

Completely agree with you on Twitter. I wouldn’t try to convince someone to use it who wasn’t pushing some kind of agenda, but it has been awesome for seeing where other travelers are and scheduling meet ups during my travels! I’ve definitely had friendships begin on Twitter more than any other social media platform I use.
It’s so useful when traveling, especially when you are solo and want to meet up with good people.
That foods looks great! I’d never heard of four square meals and they seem just the thing for me.

I always suck at choosing what I want when we go out to eat and often when I’ve choosen something and I see the plates of the others arriving i’m thinking: “Darn, I should’ve picked that!”. Terrible, I know:-) But a four square meal would so solve this problem!
