Devour the world

ayngelina

A few weeks ago I was approached by Scotiabank to work on the Around the World with $20k contest. It’s a pretty incredible opportunity to win the ultimate vacation based on your travel personality. They have identified 4 keys types:

Culture Vultures who seek out culture through history, art or live concerts.
Foodies who don’t just travel to see the world, but to devour the world.
Road Trippers who only need a map, a full tank of gas, and the perfect playlist.
Adven-tourists who live for the thrill of adventure with crazy ziplines, climbing, or hiking.

While I have a touch of culture vulture. I think we can all agree I’d never be the adven-tourist.

And if you had any shred of doubt about what category I’d fall into, perhaps this video from a trip to Ecuador will help better define it.

This contest is pretty simple. Go here to identify your travel personality by answering a series of simple questions. Each answer earns you five entries toward the $20,000 grand prize for a dream trip. The grand prize winner is drawn on March 31, 2014.

Aside from winning the grand prize, there are a number of ways you can make your travel dream a reality. For starters, if you don’t have a travel credit card you should consider getting one. It makes the most expensive part – flights – so much more manageable. In Canada I now put everything on mine, including gum, because you can easily accumulate a lot of points. You can redeem for as little as 5000 points, although I’m a bit of a points saver and I’m saving for a big trip – Buuz, a local Mongolian delicacy…

With the Scotiabank®* Gold American Express® Card you can earn 4x the points at eligible gas stations, grocery stores and on dining and entertainment. There are also a bunch of travel privileges, services and insurance options – which is also important for me as I’ve not had the best luck with travel – remember the time I was stuck in Buenos Aires because of the ash cloud.

If you’re thinking about taking a big trip soon my number one planning tip would be to check out the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card. Right now they are waiving the $99 annual fee waived for the first year and you earn 15,000 bonus points with the first purchase, which actually amounts to $150 in travel.

Oh and if you’re wondering what I’d do with the 20k I’m making a list now so stay tuned.

Disclosure: This is a paid programming series with Scotiabank but as with all partnerships I only choose the best – because who doesn’t need 20k toward a dream vacation. And sorry to say to everyone outside Canada, but it’s only open to Canadians.

Not surprised at all but you need your own category as a “weird hunter” as you always find the most peculiar things.

I know it’s sad Nancie, having worked in advertising and run a bunch of contests – it’s so complicated for companies to run them in Quebec they just opt out. It may be the only thing about Quebec I don’t like.

Maybe I was doing something wrong but I couldn’t seem to enter without authorizing the app to send tweets on my behalf, which I wasn’t excited about. Amazing prize though!

WOW! What a great contest, thanks for sharing. I have the gold american express and use it for all my purchases to accumulate points. Downfall: Haven’t been to a place yet in Guatemala that excepts AMEX.

    Ayngelina,

They won’t find anyone more suitable than you for the “Foodies” type :) I wish it was open to people in Europe and we would have definitely applied for the “Road Trips” category :)

Good luck – hope you get to devour the world. Gulp!
