beef bacon
Amman, Jordan

The first comment I received from many people was that there would be no bacon in Jordan. Guess what: there is!

Sort of.

In Amman I saw this curious tray of beef bacon at the hotel and had to try it. You are not fooling anyone with this smoked meat but it was tasty. Mahmoud told me it was possible to buy bacon in Jordan as Christians do live there too but you simply had to know where to go.

So crisis averted. Bacon is everywhere.

Disclosure: I was a guest of the Jordan Tourism Bureau, they did not ask that I write a favourable review or be so inquisitive with my guide about buying bacon in Jordan.

It kind of looks like the pizza bacon you get in many places. Not the same, but still decent.
It probably would do for non-bacon connoisseurs such as yourself.

Whoops, obviously I meant non-bacon connoisseurs *unlike* yourself. Did I really just publicly question your bacon expertice? Please don’t ban me!

Oooh, I remember seeing beef bacon in Malaysia a few years ago. I wonder what other types there are…

Well I have had both chicken and turkey bacon. I would not recommend them.

Have you tried Vegetarian Bacon? I’m sure it’s no substitute.

    It’s pretty good though.

Most people would not suspect this but in between the meat feasts I usually choose vegetarian. I have had veggie bacon although it feels too chemically for me, however I don’t think people would ever know veggie pepperoni was not meat.

Psh, that’s Canadian Bacon! (actually what we call it in the states), if you want some REAL bacon, you can come have a hung-over breakfast with me right now at a greezy Philadelphia diner ;)

Hehe Canadian bacon is still pork, it’s just from a different part of the pig :)

But I would not turn down diner food, it’s my guilty pleasure.

Yes! I too share a love of bacon. My vegetarian, vegan and Rastafarian friends are disgusted by it, but whatever. I grew up in the south; we eat almost every part of the big. Bring on the bacon!!!

Haha. Where would Bacon is Magic be without its bacon?

Many many years ago back when I was a young cub, there used to be a deli and meat shop right next to the central/main post office building in downtown Amman; they specialized in imported meats including types that were catered to christian consumers. I would think it is still there.
