The last few years I’ve had some memorable birthdays, I turned 33 in Nicaragua and sandboarded down an active volcano, at 35 I spent the evening at an event with my friends from Well Preserved and also questioned whether I really wanted children (spoiler alert: turns out I don’t) but this has been one of my favourite birthday.
Thank you to everyone who helped me reach 1000 YouTube subscribers, an ambitious goal that I had set for my birthday and I didn’t think I would achieve it. I’m really excited to share more videos with you this year.
This birthday was relaxing, Chef Rouge was able to take the day off and we spent it on the back deck. He surprised me with flowers and tickets to Fleetwood Mac – a band that people tease me about but I love.
We then went for dinner at Cava, a restaurant featuring small plates from Latin America and Spain – both of which I’m very familiar with so it was nice to try interesting dishes like the supergilda or the pincho of gamay-poached foie gras with rhubarb mostarda.
But my favourite dish was at home, I haven’t had a birthday cake in years and I never really missed it as I don’t care for sweets but Chef Rouge knows I have a disgusting guilty pleasure – Cool Whip. And so he made me a cake with carmelia ganache, nutella and Cool Whip.
It’s been a great day, I think 37 is going to be a great year.
