Rimini, Italy

I’ve now been to Italy three times, my first trip was solo. I had left a toxic job and asked for 2 weeks before starting another to shed the negative energy.

I walked around Rome and Florence just taking photos and popping into any restaurant that did not have English menu.

For the next few days I’m in Rimini, a popular summer destination – although not so popular in the autumn.

But that’s okay because I’m here to speak at an Italian travel conference.

Most of the time will be in a convention centre but tonight I am free to explore.

Rimini

The view from the river. Reminds me so much of other cities in Italy like Pisa or Florence with beautiful lights at night.

Italian vending machine

A random shop with no one working, just vending machines…

Italian kitchen

I snuck my camera into a window of a restaurant kitchen, while there are many men working it’s clear it’s the woman running the show.

Rimini Italy
Rimini house

Once a fishing town. These placards are the names of fishermen who lived in the house. Here there were 6 in the family.

Rimini cafe
Rimini Cafe

It’s a bit chilly but everyone is still outside eating I love the culture of food here.

Rimini bar

The reason why I wish I were staying longer. I have no idea what a cichetteria but I would love to find out!

And while I’m not staying long in Rimini I’m not really worried on what I may be missing out on.

Italy is the kind of place where you know you’ll come back time after time.

I’ve been in this country 3 times already but I know a fourth, fifth and sixth is inevitable.

  1. These photos are gorgeous—I love night wandering shots. And regarding the eating outside… even in France when it’s chilly, people still want to spend as much time outside as possible. I love it!

It was a bit chilly but at the restaurant we ate at they had blankets on each seat so we could wrap up.

  2. I love the photo of the kitchen Ayngelina! The lady is definitely in charge.

I absolutely love your photo of the woman bossing all the other cooks around. Your post is making me miss Italy already. And even though I’m not quite sure where Rimini is, I’d love to go there, too!

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

All of Italy is so wonderful. I can’t wait to go back again.

  6. I haven’t been to Italy yet, but I also have a feeling it will be a country I’ll be visiting time after time!

If you haven’t gone to Italy it should be next on your list, one of my favourite countries.

  7. What a perfect little place to be traveling around. I hope the conference was great too.

Italy is just full of surprises, and keeps on giving. Lovely photo’s and Italy just makes you want to keep coming back. Rimini is now on our list.

What a photogenic and energetic place!

Vending machine store; very interesting. Still, I’d try to pass on that and save space for what must be phenomenal food in restaurants.

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

Yeah I can’t imagine it either, I mean how long is a sandwich in a machine like that??

  10. Just two weeks to recover from a toxic job!? It usually takes me eight months! If you venture south from Rimini to a town called Francavilla al Mare, that’s where my family is from and where my dad was born and raised. It’s not a bad spot. Maybe next time you go! Lovely photos.

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

Well to be fair that job scarred me for life. I’ll never work somewhere again that I am so miserable. I would far rather be broke.
I will definitely be back to Italy. In fact, considering it for early 2014.

  11. James Flowers says:

Love your photos Angelina! My next vacation will have to in Italy!

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

It’s an amazing place to visit. I know I will be back soon.

  12. ciao Ayngelina! I really like your blogs and as I’m from Bologna I couldn’t miss this post! We go quite often to Rimini during the summer and I am happy to explain to you what “cicchetteria” means! Cichetto or cicchetto is basically a shot, so cicchetteria is a bar where normally you can get shots of tequila, rum or whatever for a good price 🙂
Have you tried PIADINA? It’s wonderful there ( especially CRUDO and SQUAQUERONE..parma ham and a typical soft cheese from the area ) love the pics as well!!

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

Thank you so much, it sounds like my kinda place! If you’re from Bologna you may like my next post tomorrow, it’s all about my day in Bologna!

  13. Italy always felt like one of those places that would “always be there” and I never felt a huge pull to make it there quickly. BUT, photos like this make me realize that I’m being silly and should totally go sooner over later 😉

  14. A Cook Not Mad (Nat) says:

Aaaawww Italy, just can’t get enough, we gorged on piadina and squaquerone when we were in Rimini. Did you go to the Grand Hotel? I remember you were jealous about our meal there 🙂

  15. Jonathan Look, Jr. says:

You are visiting on of my favorite places on the planet! I can’t wait to get back there. Low season is the best.

  16. Ron | Active Planet Travels says:

Your camera takes some gorgeous night photos! I love how you can really get a feel for Italy everywhere though. Those restaurants are just egging for us to visit them!! 🙂

  17. Rashad Pharaon says:

I love the few strategically placed empty chairs in your photos..makes it easier to picture myself sitting outside in Rimini, sipping a glass of wine..

  18. Ah, Italy. You are so right about it – it’s a place that you always feel like you can return to.

  19. I can’t get enough of Italy. Its the country you visit again and again. I would also love to find out what is cichetteria.

  20. Italy was a far too brief stop for me, as I worked on a cruiseship. Would love to return. What I remember most is how raw, gritty and strangely, very sexual the country felt. Odd how such a popular European destination maintains a raw quality no?

  21. The place looks romantic and the people has a good taste for food & catching up with their love ones base on the picture you’ve posted here.

  22. North, South..Italy is amazing

  23. I’m sure you got hissed at in Italy.. probably even slapped on the ass.. which would never happen in Central America..

    1. Ayngelina Author says:

I totally agree with you. In fact when people ask me the worst country for being hassled as a single woman I actually say Italy. I found in Central America people give you distance, even when they hiss.
